GARDEN DESIGN

In 1998, I took a break from my floral career in order to pursue a degree in landscape design & horticulture. The highlight of my education was interning at the magnificent Elizabeth Miller Botanical Garden in Shoreline, WA. Since completing my degree in 2000, I have had the pleasure of working in many gardens and designing an array of landscapes. Most of these have been residential, although I also enjoy the nature of commercial and public projects.

It is important to me that I develop intimate working relationships with my clients. My most enjoyable projects are those that are somewhat collaborative and it is only in really getting to know a person (and their family) that I can design a garden to suit their specific needs and aesthetic sense. I am detail oriented and will spend the necessary time picking out the appropriate stone, pots, paving material, water features, and plants in order to create a harmonious space that can be enjoyed for many years. My plant palettes are an exciting play of color and texture and allow for some things to shine in every season. In recent years, many clients have a similar request for gardens that are ‘low maintenance’ and ‘drought tolerant’ and I strive to create invigorating and/or restful environments within these parameters.

In addition to doing complete designs and installations I also ‘tweak’ existing gardens, create planting plans to implement, maintain a few selective gardens, and act as a garden mentor. I guess you could say I wear all types of wide brimmed hats.
